For as long as I can remember, I have loved books and reading. Graceling and its companion novels by Kristin Cashore is one of my favorites, so when Debi of Blue Skin Yarns and I connected over it, of course a collaboration was born! Fire’s Wrap is the second of three designs based on the trilogy. It’s named for the second book’s main character, a flame-haired blend of mystery and strength. It seemed to me Fire would wrap herself in something flowing and lovely, but also practical.

A blend of elegant lace and rustic garter stitch, Fire’s Wrap features flames that lick up the edges from border to center. Designed to drape and flow, the wrap works especially well with silk blends but will cooperate nicely with any fiber that appreciates a firm blocking. Thanks to its construction—knit in two identical pieces and grafted down the center line—the finished piece is symmetrical. Whether you pick your favorite solid or tonal or venture into speckle territory, Fire’s Wrap will showcase your yarn of choice to perfection.

The length is easy to tweak, and the pattern includes a note about how to do just that. It includes detailed grafting instructions as well as links to additional resources. Lace is both written and charted, and Fire’s Wrap has been tech edited and test knit, so you can cast on with confidence!

YARN
Approximately 1183 yd / 1082 m of fingering weight yarn. Pattern includes a note about altering the size to accommodate different put-ups.

NEEDLES
US 4 3.5 mm 24” 60 cm or longer circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
Second set of needles in the same size or one size smaller, for grafting

NOTIONS
Waste yarn or spare cable to hold 95 live stitches, 8 stitch markers, lifeline yarn (optional), tapestry needle

GAUGE
21 stitches and 28 rows = 4” 10 cm in garter stitch after firm blocking. Gauge is not crucial but will affect yardage used and final dimensions.
