Limited Time Offer: buy the “Celebration” yarn from Alainn Yarns and receive this pattern free with your purchase.

Alainn Yarns celebrates their tenth anniversary in June 2024. Stephanie dyed up this celebratory colourway, inspired by fireworks, with dots of bright colours on a dark background. I took that image as inspiration for my design, with lace motifs in different sizes scattered along the border of the shawl to represent multi-shot fireworks bursting at different heights in the night sky. The yarn is a blend of alpaca, cashmere and silk—a luxurious yarn that is perfect for marking a special occasion.

Given the complex placement of lace motifs, I would classify this as an intermediate project, although none of the individual techniques are particularly difficult. The techniques you will need to know, or learn, to complete this project are:

  • cast on and bind off;
  • knit and purl;
  • yo increase;
  • k2tog decrease;
  • ssk decrease;
  • p2tog decrease;
  • cdd double decrease.
