The Firre-socks are worked cuff down or toe up. The cuff down version has a reinforced heel flap, the toe up version has Fleegle heel. The traditional Shetland Fir Cone lace pattern continues to the instep and the stitch pattern can be worked from written instructions or from charts.

Firre is Old Norse and means fir. Firre-socks feature traditional Shetland Fir Cone lace pattern.

The pattern is written for magic loop, but can easily be modified for double pointed needles. Needle A refers to instep stitches and needle B to sole stitches. On Knit Now magazine the pattern is only for cuff down and written for DPN’s.

The lace pattern is not particularly stretchy, so if you are a tight knitter, it is advisable to go up with needle size for the leg.
