First Christmas Stocking
From the pattern:
Yarn: 1 skein Manos del Uruguay Maxima for Main Colour (approx. 219 yds/200m per 3.5 oz/100g)
1/3 skein Manos del Uruguay Wool Classica for Contrasting Colour (approx. 46 yds/42m)
or similar worsted/aran weight yarn
Gauge: This is not so important since it doesn’t really need to fit anyone’s foot. You may want to adjust the needle size/yarn weight depending on the number of presents you’re expecting…
This stocking is knit toe up, using a number of elements that I normally would not use when constructing socks. It starts with a magic cast on (read about it here), has a square toe knit in garter stitch, a double-stitch short row heel (read about it here) in garter stitch, colourwork for the snowflake detail, and finally an applied i-cord to finish the top.
Happy knitting!
Errata: in row 1 of leg, add a K 1 to the end. Updated in pattern Dec. 23/10.
