First Sight: A Bella Hat
This is a supremely customizable slouchy hat that was designed to pair well with the Phenomenon pattern by Carine Ancel or the Bella's Mittens pattern by Marielle Henault, based on the mittens that Bella Swan wears in Twilight and New Moon (in the scenes where she is walking on the beach with Jacob in both movies). The special feature on this hat is the tulip (or horseshoe) cable going around the band of the hat, it matches the cable from the mittens. This cute little thing flatters many!
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Judy’s Magic Cast On
• Experience with circular needles
• Kitchener Stitch
• Magic Loop
• Picking up stitches
• Decreasing (K2tog only)
• Sewing in Ends
NOTIONS:
• Size US10 40” circular needle
• Size US10 16” circular needle
• Cable needle
• Tapestry needle to sew in ends
Exact gauge is not crucial on this hat, as you will be making the band to custom fit your head and picking up stitches according to how long you made the band. Bulky yarn works best, but don’t go too bulky or it won’t look right.
I would just like to add that I have kept the purple sample to wear myself and it is the best hat I own! It always stays on, never rides up like other winter hats, it’s super warm, and it goes with many hairstyles - because of the slouch factor you can wear it with a ponytail or other up-do and it doesn’t look weird like with other hats!
