‘The First Snowfall’ double layer mittens are knit in the round from the bottom up. However, this is not double knitting as you might think.
All you have to do is knit four details: a pair of the inside mittens in stockinette stitch (inner layer), and a pair of the upper mittens (outer layer) in Roosimine knitting technique on the back of the hand, and in stockinette stitch on the palm side.
To finish, you’ll insert one detail into another and join them together (for each pair of mittens).
The double-layered mittens turn out very warm and cozy. They will keep your hands warm, especially during the severe winter frosts. And your hands will be forever grateful to you.
Roosimine is an Estonian inlay technique that creates the appearance of embroidery through intentional floats in contrasting yarn on the right side of your knitting. It is a wonderful and easy technique to add to any project. The name Roosimine translates to “decorating with roses”.
The pattern includes charts and pattern instructions. A detailed step-by-step photo tutorial is also included.
The pattern is designed for two sizes.
