This is a written pattern (with photographs) of a 3-dimensional Golden Perch otolith (fish ear bone) created and shared as a free resource for National Archaeology Week (NAW) 2022.

Otoliths are small bones found in the inner ear of certain fish, and when found in archaeological sites they can provide useful information about past fish populations, environments, and patterns in human fishing choices. You can read a more technical description in Disspain et al. (2016): https://researchonline.jcu.edu.au/38953/

This pattern is worked in rounds, in a spiral
