I always thought a brioche-style rib would be great for a golf club cover as the result is such a nice, thick, squishy ribbed fabric. Plus, since it is ribbed, the finished result conforms nicely to the club head.

After putting it off for awhile, I have now worked out a pattern using the Fisherman Rib for three sizes: Driver (460cc), fairway, and hybrid.

A set of all three of the headcovers in a single color should overall use about 5 oz (224 yds) of Red Heart SuperSaver yarn. However, you can see from my photos that I used multiple yarns in different colors which I pulled from my stash. If you make your own pompoms, additional yarn would be needed. I found some lovely ready-made mini pompoms on Etsy - or if you prefer you don’t even have to attach pompoms at all. I’ve found that a number bead is a convenient “topper” and helps identify your clubs with minimal fuss.

As is true of all my headcover patterns, they are knitted in the round using double-pointed needles. Although my instructions describe how to do the Fisherman Rib I have also included links to YouTube tutorials that I thought were particularly good in demonstrating how to knit the Fisherman Rib and also how to work the “double decrease” method. It really is not difficult but often a video helps clarify a technique in a way words can’t.

I hope you enjoy making these headcovers. They go very quickly and the end result is very thick and cozy.
