Fisherman’s Nap Blanket
The fisherman’s nap crochet blanket pattern creates a traditional looking aran cable blanket without using any post stitches. It’s a warm blanket perfect for getting cosy on the sofa.
Skills Used:
I would class this as an intermediate level blanket pattern, though once you learn the special stitches it is fairly straightforward.
The pattern assumes knowledge of basic crochet stitches, techniques and terminology
It uses two special stitches in combination to create the cabled effect. The stitches are described in the pattern along with links to written, photo and video tutorials for each.
In addition, the pattern uses single crochet and half double crochet and chains. You will also work in the front and back loops in places.
Unlike most cable blankets, this one does not use front and back post stitches.
Mateirals:
You will need a 5.5mm crochet hook (or size needed to match gauge) and approximately1400g or 2940m/3240yds of aran/worsted weight yarn. The item pictured used approximately 3.5 balls of Sirdar bonus aran with wool, 80% acrylic, 20% wool, 400g ball = 840m / 920 yds. Shade Alpine (0842).
I also recommend using place markers when working the border.
Finished size:
After a gentle blocking to even out the tension, the finished blanket pictured measures 130cm long (stitches) by 115cm wide (so it’s not quite square).
I have added an adjustment section at the end of the pattern which includes alternative stitch and row repeat counts to create the blanket in various sizes along with the approximate yarn requirements for each size.
