This pattern is available from soozjewels.etsy.com for $4.50.

This is a pattern to crochet your own Fishes and Bubbles bath mat / rug which is covered in stylised angel fishes. You can download the pattern in PDF form immediately after payment.

After payment you will have access to two files, one is written in UK terminology and the second is written in US terminology. It is 18 pages long and in full colour with photo tutorials comprising no fewer than 39 instructional photographs walking you through everything. The pattern is written in English.

The pattern caters for many different widths of mat by adding or subtracting multiples of 16 sts. Length can be similarly adjusted by adding more rows. The mat photographed is 32.5 in x 21.5 in (82.5 cm x 57 cm) and crocheted in Scheepjes Catona yarn but any 4ply / fingering yarn may be substituted. To make the mat shown a total of 10 x 50g (1,250m) of yarn was used in a variety of colours, all detailed in the pattern.

Overlay mosaic technique is used throughout the body of the mat / rug. Two colours are alternated, one colour per row. A full explanation of how to work overlay mosaic crochet stitches is contained within the pattern but visual learners may wish to familiarise themselves with these two stitches in advance of purchase by viewing them on one of the many videos available on YouTube.

The pattern also includes a very detailed step-by-step photo tutorial on how to make the special fringe shown on the mat. Two ends are crocheted together to create a square stitched fringe (rather than the usual flat braid). This tidies up all the yarn tails left over at the end of the work so there are no ends to weave in even though I’ve used so many colours!

A chart is provided (with ‘x’s) for experienced crocheters but you do not have to read charts to make this blanket, every row is written out in full as well.

The only stitches which may not be familiar to are:

UK:
dc-blo double crochet back loop only
tr-flo treble crochet front loop only

USA:
sc-blo single crochet back loop only
dc-flo double crochet front loop only

If you are a beginner with a little experience, the technique is easy to learn and I am always available by e-mail to help, just message me. I don’t usually do videos for my patterns but the included photographic tutorials are very comprehensive.

A typical hook to use is 3.25mm (D3). Depending on yarn thickness, you may have to adjust hook size to achieve the correct gauge.
