Fishing Net Ornament Cover
Welcome to my Net Ornament Cover Variations Series! This pattern features the most nautical of ornament covers! It has been designed to look just like the knotwork around antique fishing buoys, which were often made of blown glass.
For an authentic look, work in neutral, beige, or tan thread. It uses a unique knot stitch I have designed to mimic the fishermen’s knots. I have used a smaller hook than normal for size 10 thread because I want the chain stitches to stay tight. However, if you prefer to use a slightly larger hook it won’t make much difference. The pattern is designed for standard size ball ornaments in the USA which are slightly larger than 2.5” in diameter, or about 8.5” around the widest part. I strongly recommend using plastic ornaments, since blown glass balls can break under the crochet.
This cover makes a beautiful ornament for gifts or to add to your own tree!
