Though I used stash yarn for this project, any worsted weight yarn would do. Similarly, any ‘fluffy’ novelty yarn would work well for the contrast band.

My inspiration was the ‘snowflake queen’ pattern from which I made my ‘snowflake princess’. I wanted a matching hat and am still planning matching mittens as well.

This hat is worked from the brim up in the main colour and then the contrast is joined and sts are picked up from the brim to work the band in garter stitch, shaped to mimic the scalloped edge of the herringbone lace.

Although it is only one size (toddler), I’ve included general instructions on how to upsize the pattern.
