Fitted Shoulder Warmer
Finally - a shawl that stays put on your shoulders!
The cast-on is the edge that goes around the neck and down the inside front. Increases are made every other row at the center back extending the shawl down the back and out across the shoulders.
The model pictured stops just over the shoulders, however you could keep knitting more row repeats to extend the width of the shawl on down to your mid back and elbows.
The length of the front panels is determined by the number of pattern repeat stitches added at the cast-on for each front panel - in this case I’ve added five repeats of 13 stitches each on each side. To make the front panels shorter or longer, just add or subtract stitches in increments of 13 for each side.
In the #4 yarn I used, every 4 rows of the pattern repeat adds 1½“ to the width of the shawl and every 13 stitch repeat on each side adds 3½” to the length.
I’ve made myself several short ones - just enough to keep the back of my neck warm and enough length in front to keep it in place. What a nice gift for someone - and a great way to use up some leftover yarn.
Enjoy!
