I adore a seam on the back of a stocking. This pattern takes that idea and runs wild with it. I’ve used Bavarian twisted-stitch patterns for that “seam” element, flowing right up into the ribbing.

From the front, these socks are plain and simple, but they’re entirely different when viewed from the back. The cuff ribbing is twisted for better cling.

Pattern is written so that it can be worked on DPNs, magic loop or 2 circulars, as you prefer. Foot and leg length are adjustable to fit.

UPDATE: There is a small mistake in the instructions, in the upper ribbing. Ignore the instruction to (k2, p2), and work the Twisted Ribbing pattern as set, once the decreases are complete.
