Five petals worked in one round! Use either sc/hdc/dc (UK: dc/htr/tr) to make your small, medium or large flower - the same technique is used in each, which entails working all your petals into the first chain you crochet to make the flowery circle.

Experiment with different yarn weights. Mix and match your finished creations to create two or three layered flowers. I used thread, fingering and sport weight yarns and made a job-lot of flowers, then put them together to make some lovely appliques.
