Fizzgig Amigurumi
Fizzgigs are very fluffy, adorable and sometimes grumpy creatures that appear in the world of The Dark Crystal. They are round, with a long tail, four little feet and a big mouth. This pattern gives you all the information you need to crochet your very own Fizzgig, in a choice of two sizes.
The pattern is suitable for crocheters with a little experience. The instructions are detailed and easy to follow if you know the basic stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi, with full details of any more advanced stitches and techniques. This includes how to do the loop stitch and how to brush it to create the fur. They are written in English using US crochet terms, and the list of abbreviations includes the UK alternatives. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have as you are making it.
Finished size:
Large Fizzgig: approximately 22 cm/8.5” tall.
Small Fizzgig: approximately 16 cm/6.5” tall.
Yarn required:
Use double knitting (dk) weight yarn, the amounts listed below are approximate. This is equivalent to light worsted weight yarn. You can substitute worsted weight yarn, but the amounts needed may be slightly more.
Use a variegated yarn with a mix of colours, or use yarns of two similar colours, alternating each round when doing the loop stitch to make the fur. Choose which one to use for the feet and eyelids and make that yarn A, the other is yarn B. Add the amounts of yarn A and B if you are only using one colour yarn.
Large Fizzgig:
75g yarn A.
65g yarn B.
15g cream yarn.
15mm or 16.5mm yellow or amber safety eyes.
Small Fizzgig:
45g yarn A.
35g yarn B.
10g cream yarn.
12mm or 13.5mm yellow or amber safety eyes.
Both versions:
Small amount of brown yarn for nose (or black if you make a grey Fizzgig), and eyepatch if you wish to make this.
You will also need:
Tapestry needle.
Wire pet brush (slicker type).
Stuffing.
