Finland has hundreds of words for snow, as it has been an essential part of Finnish life for
centuries. The Flakes of
Snow Socks socks are inspired by light frost snow.

The Flakes of Snow Socks are knitted from cuff to toe with a traditional heel flap, featuring a
reinforced stitch pattern for added durability. In the midst of a long winter and snowy days,
wool socks get plenty of wear, so they need to last. The colorwork pattern is fairly simple,
using only two colors at a time. There are only few long floats, but any floats spanning more
than five stitches should be caught to prevent the fabric from tightening.

Sizes
Two sizes:
S: To fit an adult foot length approx. 23–25 cm / 9–9.8 in, foot
circumference approx. 20 cm / 7.9 in
L: To fit an adult foot length approx. 26–28 cm / 10.2–11 in, foot
circumference approx. 22 cm / 8.7 in
The foot length is easy to adjust by adding or removing repeats of the
colorwork pattern as instructed.

24s x 26rws with 2.25mm / US 1 needles

Needles

If you have a very tight knitting tension, try using larger needles. However,
socks should have a tight gauge to ensure better durability.

Yarn
Vuonue Pentti sock yarn (70% Finnish wool, 30% Tencel) or another DK-
weight sock yarn.
Colors: blue (1 x 100g skein), light blue-green (1 x 100g skein – plenty left
over), and natural white (2 x 100g skein).
