The Flannel in the Orchard Beanie is a perfect way to welcome in the fall. It is easily customizable, so it can be a snug fit or looser. It is labeled as an intermediate pattern because of the colorwork and the advanced apple stitch.

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn - I used Premier Yarns Basix (acrylic, but very soft) but you can use whatever brand or colors you’d like! Testers used similar weights in I Love This Yarn, Loops & Thread Impeccable, Stylecraft Special Aran, and Red Heart Super Saver Color 1 black: 35-50g Color 2 white: 30-40g Color 3 green: 20-30g Color 4- red/apple: 10-15g Color 5- brown/apple stem: 5-10g (scrap amounts of yarn) Scrap yarn to make a pom pom (if desired)
  • Hook size 5mm for brim and 6mm/6.5mm for body (see sizing on page one for more information on hook size
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Measuring tape
  • Pom-pom maker optional - I used a large pom-pom maker 3.5in. You are welcome to use whatever size you want!

Notes

  • You will need to know how to color change and carry yarn.
  • When carrying colors, do not pull the carried yarn at a full tight tension or else the hat will not have any stretch.
  • I am a lefty! Keep that in mind when looking at any pictures. Also, lefties will have the apple leaves on the right side of the apple. Righties will have it on the left.
  • I made a pom-pom for the top; you can make your own, purchase one, or omit it altogether
