My nephew Philip is a premature born baby - born at 25th week and weighting only 810 grams (1 pound 13oz). After spending more than 5 months in the hospital and going through serious surgeries and medical interventions at the age when he was supposed to be still in the womb kicking carelessly, he is now healthy, happy and smiley little boy, reminding us all that live is a miracle!

Appreciating all the support they got, my sister and brother-in-low now cooperate with a foundation, dedicated to helping families in similar situation.

I was asked to knit some small-size hats and socks for donation, so I made a bunch of hats and sent them for good. But the sample socks I received were really tiny (2 inches only) and I get frustrated working very small things with DPNs, so I decided to make a flat-knitted version that consists of carefully positioned increases and decreases. They are fast and easy to make and the form is true to the feet with enough room for toes. It takes only 6-7 grams of thread/yarn for a pair.

The finished socks are very small and they could be used also as doll’s clothing.

If you would like to make a normal newborn size, just use heavier weight yarn and bigger size needles.
