Flat Leaf on Garter Stitch
I love leaves and garter stitch backgrounds but sometimes don’t want the very puffy leaf that results. I worked out a not-so-puffy leaf version that’s a bit “fancy”: see Skills needed. The afghan strip has 31 stitches and a 52-row repeat. Working the stem stitches through the back loop keeps them straighter than regular stitches.
Feel free to work just the twin leaves or just the single leaf, as desired.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, ktbl, purl, ptbl, k2tog, SSK, SK2P, M1R, M1L, YO and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
75 yards of #10 crochet thread will make 10 inches of a 31-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
