Yarn requirements (from pattern):

For cuff and leg, about 3 1/2 ounces (100g) of dark, bulky yarn at about 10-11 wraps/inch and 550-600 yards/pound. Hannelore uses a three-ply, spun from Rambouillet or similar soft wool.

For stripes, about 1 ounce (28 g) of white wool/angora blend of the same grist as the cuff/leg yarn.

For foot, about 3 ounces (85 grams) of heavy worsted-weight yarn at about 12-13 wraps/inch and 650 yards/pound. Hannelore uses a two-ply spun from soft, dark wool.

To reinforce heels and toes, about 1 ounce (28 g.) of yarn of the same grist as the foot yarn….

For lining, about 3 1/2 ounces (100 g) of commercial pencil roving or hand carded wool, pulled out to the thickness of a pencil ….

Note: This book was published by Interweave Press as the outcome of a sock design contest in Spin Off magazine, using handspun yarns. Commercial yarns equivalents are given for most patterns (but not this one).
