Early in the 20th century, there was a fashion for knit or crochet purses worked in small gauges with silk threads and beads. This pattern is based on one published in 1924 as part of Emma Post Barbour’s The New Bead Book. The original was done in crochet, as is general for these heavily beaded purses with the beads worked in figures. This pattern makes a knitted imitation of the original with the numbers corrected to make the repeat come out evenly. The original pattern may be found at the Antique Pattern Library. This pattern will make a bag approximately 8” (20 cm) tall and 6” (15 cm) wide.
