Worked top-down from a small cast-on, the triangular body of Flight of the Heron is created from your chosen combination of (up to) three lace-patterns, and leads into a wide crescent border and optional edging. Each of the main lace charts may be repeated ad lib, thus the shawl is fully adaptable in size.

Suitable for any yarn, from cobweb to fingering weight, that knits with good stitch-definition. The complete design requires 600m/655yds upwards; a small shawl, worked without the optional edging, could be made with less yarn, down to about 400m/450yds.

• The turquoise-to-cream ombré gradient shawl used just under 96g = 765m/835yds of standard lace-weight yarn
• The apricot-to-blue gradient shawl used just under 105g = 627m/675yds of heavy lace-weight yarn
• The green-to-blue gradient shawl used approx. 107g = 640m/700yds of heavy lace-weight yarn

Please note that the pattern is given as charts only, with little written explanation. It should present no difficulties to knitters with experience of working lace and the ability to read their stitches, but is not really suitable for beginners.
