This large rectangle shawl was designed using wild silk moths as a theme. Using a provisional cast on at the center, each half of this shawl mirrors the other as do the wings of most Lepidoptera . The lower border of each side reflects the tail or fringe typically seen on all moths and butterflies. Nupps and cables depict the outline of the wings, and a simple lace side edging provides space for the moths to take flight.

Common colors for wild silk moths are gold, green, pale pink and soft beige, all of which I dye versions of in Lost City Silk. If you prefer to think of the motif as a butterfly rather than a moth, the color options expand, and perhaps Oak Barn Merino Lace offers a hue you prefer.

Wild silk moths, although common yet seldom seen, have a very short lifespan. Once knitted, however, this shawl will provide years of wear and enjoyment.
