Sometimes you want a fancy border on your cowl, but you don’t want to sacrifice a warm neck. Or sometimes you want the lace, but you also want a good Netflix or knitting group project. Flightfeather gives you both, pairing a delicately lacy flared edge with plenty of close-fitting, easy-to-work stockinette. It’s the best of both worlds: elegance and practicality, focus and fun, in one pretty package.

Flightfeather is worked from the top down. Gradual increases over the stockinette body create a gentle flare, which becomes more dramatic at the lace border. A picot bind-off accentuates the points created by the lace. The pattern includes notes for altering the height and top circumference, and lace is both written and charted.

Why “Flightfeather”? Flight feathers are, in essence, the feathers that allow a bird to fly. They are so crucial that when it comes time to molt their flight feathers, birds can be left grounded. The feathery motif around the bottom edge of Flightfeather is meant to remind us all to find and cherish the things that makes us soar, because without them, we, too, are grounded.

US 3 / 3.25 mm 16” / 40 cm or 24” / 60 cm circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge

NOTIONS
4 stitch markers (including 1 unique to mark beginning of round), tapestry needle

GAUGE
27 stitches and 32 rounds = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch after firm blocking. Gauge is not crucial but will affect yardage used and final dimensions.
