The name for the Flint Hills Blanket is inspired by the Flint Hills area in the east central portion of Kansas…my home state. Yes… contrary to popular belief…there are hills in Kansas!

The Flint Hills Blanket is knit with super bulky weight yarn so it is quick to knit on big needles.

See my Stay on the Ridge blanket pattern if you prefer to use worsted weight yarn.

Knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on US size 13 circular knitting needles.

DIRECTIONS FOR FIVE BLANKET SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…

XL: 47.5” wide x 54.5” long
Large: 40” wide x 49.5” long
Medium: : 37.5” wide x 47” long
Small: 35” wide x 37” long
Baby: 30” wide x 32” long

Any of the blanket sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about 2.75” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make blankets longer.

SKILL LEVEL: Easy

You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends.

Blocking of finished knitting is recommended.

SUPER BULKY #6 WEIGHT YARN:

XL: 1150 - 1250 yards
Large: 820 - 900 yards
Medium: 690 - 740 yards
Small: 520 - 560 yards
Baby: 380 - 410 yards

This pattern will work well with many super bulky weight yarns. Click here to see my blog post about super bulky yarns for blanket knitting.

Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your blanket.

The texture of the pattern will show up best with solid color yarns.

NEEDLES:

In order to accommodate the large number of stitches, long circular needles are highly recommended. I used US size 13 circular knitting needles 38” in length for larger blankets.

This pattern uses standard U.S. knitting terms.

Written pattern with row by row instructions.
