I first improvised these little gloves several years ago, to showcase some 10g mini-balls of sock yarn being sold at the shop where I worked, and I’ve worn them year-round ever since. Recently I learned that another shop near me was selling the little mini yarn balls, so I took the opportunity to figure out how I’d made the original gloves and write down the pattern.

Each glove uses slightly less than one 10g mini-ball of yarn (or it’s perfect for any leftover sock yarn you might have), knitted on 2.5mm needles. They’re reversible, to be worn on either hand.

Construction starts with a ribbed cuff and stockinette body, binding off and then casting on stitches to make a hole for the thumb. Short rows are added to give it shaping, first in the round and later in two sections worked flat. The top is finished off with a “thong” between the index and middle fingers.
