Flip the Script
This top is a roomy, reversible drop-shoulder design that offers two distinct looks: sleek vertical columns on one side and layered horizontal rectangles on the other. Featuring a V-neck, faux i-cord edges and elbow-length sleeves, its generous ease ensures both comfort and elegance. This top, designed by Ana-Maria Babanica (also known as CrochetHighway), will become your favourite for spring and summer!

MATERIALS
Yarn: Merino Super Sock by La Bien Aimée (75% sw merino, 25% nylon, 467 yds / 425 m – 100 g).
MC (thin vertical lines on the RS): 3 (3, 3, 3, 4) (4, 4, 4, 4) skeins in the colourway Hightower.
CC: (dotted horizontal lines on the WS): 2 (2, 2, 3, 3) (3, 3, 3, 4) skeins in the colourway Anemelilies.
Sample was made by alternating two skeins of both colours every two rows in order to minimise the colour pooling effect. The vertical floats were carried along the outer edges of the main panel.
Or approx. 1080 (1220, 1285, 1390, 1485) (1590, 1650, 1710, 1785) yds / 990 (1115, 1175, 1270, 1360) (1455, 1510, 1565, 1630) m (MC) and 735 (870, 910, 1040, 1095) (1230, 1285, 1390, 1435) yds / 670 (795, 830, 950, 1000) (1125, 1175, 1270, 1310) m (CC) of fingering-weight yarn in at least two, highly contrasting colours.
Alternative yarn suggestions are for example Friends Wheel by Hobbii, Mandala String by Lion Brand or Begonia by YarnArt.
Hook: US E-4 / 3.5 mm, a hook one size larger than gauge hook for faux i-cord finishings (optional).
Notions: 6 locking stitch markers, safety pins or sewing clips.
GAUGE
28 sts x 24 rows to 4” / 10 cm in main interlocking patt, after blocking.
32 sts x 26 rows to 4” / 10 cm in single crochet mesh st, after blocking.
NOTES
The top is worked flat, in pieces. It is made up of one main panel, as well as two underarm panels and two short sleeve panels. The underarm inserts provide all sizes with the same fit at the shoulders. You start with the main panel which is first worked from the bottom up, then split into two equal shoulder panels, then joined back together and worked from the top down. The two mesh stitch underarm panels and short sleeves are crocheted separately and then seamed to the main panel. The straight-forward construction allows you to focus on the reversible stitch pattern, while the mesh stitch inserts in the form of underarm panels and short sleeves ensure a perfect fit.
