3 sizes are given. They finish to 16.5, 18.8 and 21.2” around. The first size fits babies from about 6 months through toddler, the second little girls and the third big girls and adult women. The hat is sized without any negative ease. Often, we fit hats to stretch when worn but the hair hangs better on this one without that feature. Light worsted or heavy DK yarn is used. For the sample, I used Mary Lue’s Liberty plus. Similar weight yarns that will get the gauge are Tamm Nordic and Caron Simply Soft. Gauge is 5 stitches/7 rows per inch. This was achieved at stitch size 5 on the Brother KX350. Other mid-gauge machines can get the gauge at similar dial sizes. On the Artisan it is more like 6-7 on the dial. The gauge is also achievable at about stitch size 3 on a bulky machine. However, if a mid-gauge is available, choose it because hanging the crocheted portion to begin the hat crown is easier on a mid-gauge.
