Floating Blossom
Floating Blossom is a top-down, crescent shape shawl. Its center panel twists, trellis-like, with a ribbed cable. The body of the shawl holds floating berry blooms with more sweet cables bordering the shawl’s edge.
This shawl is the perfect easy, elegant knit. The cables look intricate but are straightforward and fun. Plus, there’s lots of stockinette to breeze through while your streaming or catching up on a good podcast.
Yarn: DK weight. Total yarn needed:
872 yards (797 m), 400 g (14 oz).
Suggested Yarn: The Woolly Mammoth Fibre Co. BFL/Masham DK Singles: 218 yards (200 m) per 100 g (3.5 oz) skein. 4 skeins of Peony. I used almost the entire four skeins of yarn. In case of gauge differences, you may want to purchase additional yarn.
NOTE: Woolly Mammoth is not currently stocking this yarn, but their BFL/Masham 2ply is an excellent substitute.
Gauge (after blocking): 22 sts and 31 rows in 4” (10 cm) in stockinette with main needle.
Suggested Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) for main needle AND US 6 (4.0 mm) needle for the bind-off. I recommend a 32” circular needle or longer.
Notions: Stitch markers (sets of different colors or shapes are useful), cable needle, and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends. (See marker/keeper suggestions in Notes section.)
Finished Measurements (after blocking): Center depth - 24” (61 cm), Wingspan - 61” (155 cm).
Difficulty Level: Suitable for intermediate knitters who are proficient at the following skills: knit, purl, make ones, yarn overs, and cabling.
