Floating Bunny with Balloons
Meet our adorable Floating Bunny and Balloons Mobile. An adorable bunny peacefully floating beneath 3 colourful balloons.
This pattern is suitable for moderate level knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches and standard knitting terms as well as a lot of patience and knowledge of knitting small things. It is not for all knitters. If you are new to knitting stuffed animals, you may want to start with our Modern Bunny or Smooth Hedgehog patterns. However, if you love detailed work, this is the pattern for you! A glossary of terms used in this pattern will be provided at the end.
If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 10 m of medium weight purple (P) yarn for the bunny and 8 m of medium weight yellow (Y), blue (B), and green (G) yarn for the balloons. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the face, fishing line to attach the bunny to the balloons as well as to hang your mobile, white (W) yarn for the balloon string, stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your bunny and balloons together. This will let you create a bunny that’s approximately 10 cm (4 inches) in length and balloons that are approximately 5 cm (1.5 inches). The final length of your mobile depends on the length of the balloon strings and the fishing line you use to hang it.
The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
Please note that this is not suitable for children to play with. It is intended for decoration only. If you plan to hang this over a child’s bed or crib, please make sure it is hung out of reach and make sure to adjust the mobile as the child grows and is able to stand. The hive and bees are small and should not be place in a child’s mouth. They could constitute a choking hazard if swallowed.
Keep in touch! We’d love to hear from you.
