Floating Diamond Edging
This no-name, no-image pattern from 1888 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 1, p.14, is reversible! It looks best blocked in a curve. The edging starts with 16 stitches, increases gradually over 9 rows to 26 stitches. On row 10, the pattern returns to 16 stitches for the next 10-row repeat. All rows are “fancy” rows. The swatch is 2.75” wide when measured to one of its points and worked at the stated gauge. It’ll take about 1 hour to knit 4 inches of this edging.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, yarn over, yarn over twice, k2tog, SK2P and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
40 yards of #10 crochet thread will make 10 inches of this edging in the stated gauge.
