This is part of a floral motif I’ve had on a sweater I’d thrifted years ago now at this point, I’ve added a few of my other favorite colorwork bits and bobs to knit too with a pattern that can be done pretty safely without having to catch too many floats.
This is a skullcap or a fisherman cap, it’s really only meant to come down and touch the tops of the ears but not cover them. Alternatively, it could be a great children’s hat too!
I used The Fiber Co. Cumbria Fingering in the color Derwentwater for the main color and then The Fiber Co. Road to China in Mother of Pearl for the contrast color; for both I got away with using only one hank of each or about 150-170 yards of MC and 100-110 yards of CC. You’ll wind up knitting at a gauge of 40 stitches by 44 rounds in a 4x4 inch square in the stranded colorwork one it’s all blocked. The final fabric is nice and dense, one of my favorite things about stranded colorwork is not only how beautiful it looks but also how utilitarian it is in that it makes that double face fabric that gives added insulation from the winter winds.
