Floral Tapestry - mittens
This design was inspired by one of the sketches I drew during my travels to Peru in 2014. It is based on a flower with 4 petals in a pattern with 4 complementary shades. Each repeat of the flower is worked in a different shade, half-shifted from the previous repeat, with a dotted motif in another bold shade in-between. When knitted up, the final result reminded me of a carpet, with the cuff playing the framing role of the carpet border.

Kate Davies Designs Milarrochy Tweed (70% Wool; 30% Mohair; 100m / 109yds per 25g ball)
1 ball of each of the following shades:
A Buckthorn
B Tarbet
C Garth
D Smirr

Needles and notions
Gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working small circumferences
Below gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working small circumferences
Waste yarn (for holding thumb stitches) Stitch markers
Tapestry needle

Gauge
32 stitches and 36 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded colourwork in the round on gauge-size needle(s)
Use 3mm needle(s) as a starting point for swatching.

Size
To fit adult hand with 18-20.5 cm / 7-8in circumference

Pattern notes
These mittens are worked from bottom to top. After the 1x1 twisted rib cuff, the hand is worked in stranded colourwork, with an integrated thumb gusset.
