Flore pleno
What is lovelier than admiring the first signs of spring showing in the nature!
My Flore Pleno-sweater is inspired by the snowdrops of the season and it will be my best companion for many spring-walks to come.
Construction
This traditional sweater is worked with lots of patterning, where the “snowdrops” take the main part of the show.
The construction of the sweater is:
the lower body is worked bottom-up and in-the-round to underarms, the upper body is worked in-the-round with steeks on the sides. The steeks are secured and cut open and the shoulders are seamed. The sleeves are worked top-down and in the round from picked-up and knit sts around the armhole openings.
If you don’t mind working the Fair Isle pattern back-and-forth, the upper front and back may be worked without steeks.
(In the pattern, the steek version is explained only).
Materials
If working steeks I advise that you use pure wool only.
Yarn: I used ”Pernilla” from Filcolana to work the sample in MC (Black) and CC (Marzipan). This yarn of DK weigh comes in balls of 50 gr/1.76 oz and 175 m/191 yards. Yardage: you will need approximately 750/975/1250/1500/1800 m = 820/1065/1365/1635/1965 yards of MC, 575/750/950/1150/1375 m = 625/820/1035/1255/1500 yards of CC.
Needles
Size 3 mm/US2.5 for the ribbed hem, cuffs and neckline.
Size 3.5 mm/US4 for all parts worked in Fair Isle pattern.
Notions 4 removable stitch-markers, tapestry needle, blocking tools. You will also need material for reinforcing and cutting the steeks, depending on the way you reinforce them (sewing machine, needle and thread, crochet hook….) and also sharp scissors.
Sizes
Finished chest measurements after blocking/washing and worked at gauge are: 86/103/120/137/154 cm = 34/40.5/47/54/60”.
The sample is worked in size 1, with approximately 6 cm/2.25” of positive ease.
Please note: due to the pattern-repeat of 24 sts there are few sizes to choose from. If you don’t find your size in the size-table, it is perfectly fine to modify sizing by changing the gauge slightly (if your yarn allows).
Gauge
28 sts and 30 rounds = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”
The pattern
There is a schematic.
All measurements are metric and imperial.
All sections worked in Fair Isle pattern are charted.
The sleeves are fully charted for each size (1 chart per size).
Techniques involved
Cast-on. Bind-off. Work in the round.
Working Fair Isle.
Seaming shoulders.
Securing and cutting steeks (explained).
Picking-up and knit sts.
I believe that the pattern suits an average/experienced knitter.
