Flores Knitted Flowers
Most times flower accents made from yarn are crocheted. Yet many people do not crochet. So here are some fun flowers just for those of you who can knit.
The pattern contains a textured leaf design, and eight flower designs including two sizes of daisy which can be layered to create a double flower. The flowers are quick to knit and are perfect for using up all those leftover scraps of yarn. They are also a great way to practice some intermediate techniques such as short rows without stress. Other than those that use short rows, the flowers and leaf are shaped using increases and decreases, and cast on and bind off techniques.
The knitted flowers can be used as accents on any knitted, sewn or crochet project, or you could combine the flowers into a pretty scarf as shown in this pattern.
The examples were knitted using pure wool sock and fingering yarns and US size 2 (2.75mm) needles, but they can be worked with finer yarns and needles to make smaller versions, or you can use chunkier yarns and needles to make larger versions. You can also combine two yarns together to create interesting colors and textures.
The Flores pattern is a very useful knitting pattern. Not only are these flowers the perfect knitted embellishment for doll clothing, but they are perfect to use on baby clothes too, or for making knitted jewellery.
I hope you have as much fun knitting the flowers as I did working out how to make them. It was a challenge, but a fun one!
This PDF knitting pattern is designed to fit 18” dolls such as American Girl®.
