Floriculture is an Assigned Pooling pullover inspired by the colorful rows of blossoms on flower farms. Its boxy shape is worked from the lower front edge, over the shoulders and then down the back. Stitches are picked up along the outer edge for the sleeves, and the entire shape is folded in half and seamed along the sides and under arms.

There is lovely texture play between the stripes of smooth Fern and fluffy Zephyr.

Assigned Pooling occurs when a change in stitch and texture is assigned to changes in color within a skein of variegated yarn. Stockinette Stitch is assigned to the background color to create a striped backdrop for the Spool Stitch assigned to the accent color.

You may substitute Silky Solo or Fern for the Zephyr if you prefer a less fluffy base.

Gauge Body: 20 STS x 30 rows = 4” x 4” in Stockinette ST
Ribbing: 26 STS x 40 rows = 4” x 4” in 2x2 ribbing.

Color Note Floriculture uses one tonal colorway on my Fern base (Merino/Nylon Fingering) and one Assigned Pooling colorway on my Zephyr base(Suri Alpaca/Silk). Choose a tonal Fern colorway that contrasts well with the background color of the variegated Zephyr to make the stripes really pop, or choose similar colors for more subtle stripes.
