Overlay Mosaic Crochet Pattern
Florida Gator

Florida Gator is placemat size but can also be made into a throw pillow. It’s a great beginner pattern and works up fast.

This is a great beginner pattern and can be done in any colors you wish. You may use your choice of any worsted (#4 weight) or DK/Sport (#3 weight) yarn.

If you plan to make a placemat, I recommend using cotton yarn especially if you will be using it to set hot dishes from the oven on it. Cotton yarn is also recommended if you will be setting cold drinks due to condensation on the glass. The cotton yarn will absorb the dampness.

Color A - Off White - 140 yards
Color B - Green - 70 yards

Stitches Used - US Terms:
Ch - Chain
SC - Single Crochet
BLSC - Back Loop Single Crochet
FLDC - Front Loop Double Crochet 2 Rows Down

Skill Level:
Beginner - As long as you know the basics of crocheting (stitches listed above), you will be able to do this project. Mosaic crochet looks a lot more complex than it really is. This is a great pattern to try if you’ve never done mosaic overlay crochet.

I have had several people that were brand new to mosaic crochet try my patterns and each one was able to follow the instructions and were successful in their projects.
