For a beautifully wintry mood, look no further than the Florin Pullover, with its deep, fold-over turtleneck and colorwork bands of snowflakes under magnifying glass. Compound raglan and round-yoke shaping ensures comfortable fit and a subtle design effect at the yoke. However, Florin’s most brilliant feature is its reversibility; this piece is designed to be knit with the smooth stockinette side facing, but with careful finishing, you can proudly pull it on with the stranded side taking the reins for a visually muted, but distinctly textural feel.

Construction

The body and sleeves of this pullover are worked circularly from the bottom up, then joined to work the yoke in one piece. The yoke is shaped with a combination of raglan and round-yoke decreases.

Yarn

Brooklyn Tweed Shelter (100% American Targhee-Columbia wool; 140 yards/50 grams)

• 7 (7, 8, 9, 9, 10) skeins of Main Color (MC)

• 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 3) skeins of Color 1 (C1)

• 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 3) skeins of Color 2 (C2)

• Note: Second size uses almost all of 7 skeins. You may wish to consider purchasing an extra skein for safety due to variations in individual work.

Yardage

Worsted weight wool yarn:

• 875 (980, 1060, 1165, 1250, 1355) yards of MC
• 245 (275, 300, 330, 355, 385) yards of C1
• 245 (275, 300, 330, 355, 385) yards of C2

Gauge

• 19 stitches & 28 rounds = 4” in stockinette stitch with Size A needle(s), after blocking
• 19 stitches & 23 rounds = 4” in Florin chart pattern with Size B needle(s), after blocking

Needles

Size A (for Single-Color Stockinette Stitch)

• One each 16”, 24”, and 32” circular needles in size needed to obtain gauge listed
• Suggested Size: 5 mm (US 8)

Size B (for Chart Pattern)

• One 32” circular needle and one set of DPNs*, one size larger than Size A
• Suggested Size: 5.5 mm (US 9)

Due to significant variance among knitters, your colorwork fabric should be swatched and wet-blocked prior to knitting your sweater to determine whether Size B should be larger, smaller, or equal to Size A. We recommend Speed-Swatching for Circular Knitting.

Size C (for Ribbing)

• One each 16” and 32” circular needles and one set of DPNs*, two sizes smaller than Size A

• Suggested Size: 4 mm (US 6)

Size D (optional; for Tubular Cast On only)

• One 32” circular needle and one set of DPNs*, one size smaller than Size C
• Suggested Size: 3.75 mm (US 5)

*32” circular needle can be used instead of DPNs if using the Magic Loop method for working small circumferences in the round (e.g. Sleeves).

Note: If you have adjusted the needle size to obtain the correct gauge, it may or may not be necessary to make a matching adjustment to the needle size used for Tubular Cast On due to variance in individual work. You may wish to test your chosen cast-on method on your swatch.
