Floro the red squirrel
This is a .pdf crochet pattern, written in standard American crochet terms. With this very easy pattern, you can make a realistic but playful red or grey squirrel doll.
NOTE: Floro received a makeover in February 2018. The first 12 projects here were made with the previous version of the pattern. At the bottom of this listing you can learn what’s new with Floro.
Size of finished animal
Made with worsted weight yarn: 6 inch / 15 cm when sitting.
The crochet pattern contains
An intro with useful info. List of materials, tools and accessories needed. Brand and colour numbers of the needed yarn. A clear and colour coded description of how to crochet and assemble the animal. Pictures and illustrations to help getting everything right. All my patterns are text edited for correct English and have been tested by an experienced crocheter before publishing.
Materials
For this squirrel you’ll need worsted weight yarn and an E US / 3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll need three colours of yarn, rust (2/3 of a 100 yard skein), white (1/4) and some barley / camel colour. These quantities are estimates. For the eyes I’ve used 9 mm animal eyes. You will also need fibrefill and pellets for a bit of extra weight in the body (I use Hama beads). Lopi colour numbers: 9427, 0051 and 1419 or 1400.
Yarn
Istex Lett lopi. I strongly recommend using a fuzzy yarn because it gives the best result.
Gauge is unimportant for this pattern. If the pieces are crocheted tightly enough, they will not gape visibly when stuffed. You can make a little test swap to be sure.

What’s new with Floro
Floro and his pattern have received a makeover in February 2018. The muzzle and head now are crocheted in one piece and the eyepatches that needed to be attached to the head are replaced by simple embroidered lines. His proportions have changed and the shape of the white belly is improved. The pattern is text edited and contains clearer instructions and more images. Floro was one of my first patterns and didn’t meet up to my recent standards.
