Flounder
The original pattern for this tawashi is from a Japanese book (Japanese Magic Scrubber book ISBN 978-4-8347-6294-7). Rhonda White had made an adaptation that I think is just the cutest! However, to me, the design appears “unfinished”, as there is a distinct right and wrong side to the pattern. My OCD peeked its ugly head and I toiled until I came up with a way that would make me happy. “Flounder” is larger, and both sides of the cloth are a mirror image of each other. There. I’m happy.
Here are the directions for “Flounder”. I am NOT claiming this design as my own. This is my interpretation of a very ingenious idea. I just wish that I was as clever as the designer! :D
I used approximately 30yd each of two contrasting colors, in the yarn that was available to me… Lily’s Sugar’n Cream. I just wish that I could get my hands on that acrylic yarn that is specifically made for Tawashi!
Gauge: Not too important. Heck.. It’s a dischcloth! Just use the appropriate sized needles in order to for you to get a “fabric” that you are happy with. Too tight? Go up a size or two. Too loose? Go down.
Other suggestions?
I just LOOOVE how Ninoun (2nd photo) didn’t stitch up the end. She left it open so that you could use it like a glove. Very clever :D
Hmmm… perhaps you could add a small elastic strip at the point where the back fin meets the body. It would give it tad more definition, but still remain so that you could insert your hand.
Have any other suggestions you would like to add? I’d love hearing about them!
Most of all…. ENJOY!!!!
