This pattern uses a little of four different colors of yarn. Petals, Hair, Skin, and Stem (The Body). You also either need (preferably) thinner black yarn or black embroidery thread for the face. The head and body are worked in one piece, but everything after that is created separately and sewn on. You can pin the pieces in place first and then sew it together.
