I know many babies with long thin feet, but find most newborn-6 month socks and booties tend to be short and fat. This pattern is designed for those long thin feet.

The foot of the bootie is a garter stitch “flower” stem. There is a row of eyelet to thread a tie around the ankle, then about a half inch of ribbing to fit snugly. Switching to stockinette stitch will make a smooth stamen, then garter stitch petals. The pattern can easily be adjusted for boys by knitting in a single color and continuing the ribbing until the desired length is reached.

Smaller sizes can be made by using thinner yarn or smaller needles. The reverse is also true.
