Description
The Flower of Life Shawl has beautiful texture and delicate open work which makes it especially suitable for warmer weather or festive occasions.

This pattern is sure to keep your interest. It is made in sections and then joined together. To start, the flower of life medallion is made for the center back and two half motifs are made for the fronts. The circle motif becomes the center of the square made for the back. The half front motifs are turned into triangles. When all the shapes are completed they are crocheted together along the shoulder seam to form a large triangular shawl. An edging is added around the outside of the shawl and the final finishing options of tassels or fringe are added.

The flower of life adds to the special story of the shawl and why I am adding it to my collection of Meaningful Makes. Originally, it was designed for a friend that was battling uterine cancer. Since the uterus is the center from which all life flowers, the flower of life medallions seemed to have a meaningful connection. To enhance the story, I made my version in shades of peach, as peach is the colour of the cancer awareness ribbon used for uterine cancer.

The flower of life motif, which is an ancient geometric symbol, has 19 interlocking flowers and many cultures believe that it holds the secrets of the universe. it contains within it meanings in numerology, the 61 interlocking circles of the Fruit of Life, Metatron’s Cube, the symbol of a Labyrinth, the Kabbalah Tree of Life, and the energy of the 7 chakras which makes it especially fitting for those that practice meditation.

Beyond all these hidden meanings, the Flower of Life Comfort Shawl is just a beautiful shawl that can be worn by anyone that enjoys the art of crochet. However, if you are gifting it to someone that is battling uterine cancer, a bonus gift card explaining the story of this shawl, has been included with this pattern for you to print and include with your gift.
