Flower Power
This is the first pattern release for my new Ebook “Just Playing Around”.
If you have a collection of bits and pieces of sport, dk or worsted weight yarn in your stash, you can knit this hat. It can be worked in any of these three weights of yarn. Use the lightest weight, the hat won’t be quite as warm as the worsted version, but it will be the same size.
The gauge is what is important. In the samples shown, the March Hare Rainbow version or the Natural Alpaca version the gauge is the same and they were worked on the same size of needle. The March Hare is a Heavy Worsted and the Alpaca is a light dk.
The stranding is very easy. Only on two of the rounds of each motif does the carry yarn have to be caught.
The Wrapped Ribbon edging is an easy detail to knit and there are full instructions in the pattern. It involves slipped stitches and wrapped stitches and as long as the stranding is not pulled to tight your edging will pop!
Materials: Approx 85 grams of mixed worsted weight colours. Rainbow ample shown was knit with 6 colours of Wonderland March Hare Worsted. Main colour – approx. 20 grs, light green and teal (stripes) – 25 grs each, and 12 grs each of the 3 remaining colours. The 4 shade Natural Alpaca version was knit with a sport/light dk alpaca from my stash, Drops Puna would substitute very well for this version.
Needles – 3.5mm US #4, 16 inch circs for edging, 4.0mm US #6, 16 inch circs and dpn’s for body and crown, stitch markers and the regular notions.
