Flower Power Top
Summer is Coming!
Flowers and summer fun are the inspiration for this cap-sleeved top. The large, colorful flower is executed in intarsia, and a touch of stranded color work adorns the mitred neckline.
The body is knit up flat, then seamed at the shoulders and sides. Short-row shaping is used to construct the cap-sleeves. Lastly, the square neckline banding is worked by picking up stitches around the neckline and working in the round. The banding background is worked in seed stitch while the contrasting color-stranded stitches are worked in stockinette.
I chose Luma from the Fibre Co. for this design because it is a smooth blend of linen, cotton and silk, along with merino for yarn-memory. It’s a very comfortable, breathable yarn for warm weather (did I mention Summer is Coming?). Luma is a DK weight yarn. The sample was knit up with US 5 needles for both the seed-stitch banding and the stockinette body.
The main color is “Flax”. Additional mini-skeins of “Grenadine”, “Flamingo”, and “Aizome” are needed for the intarsia work.
