Flowercloud Shawl is a playful mix of old and new crochet stitches, made with a modern maker in mind.

Delicate yet simple flowery lace, playful pom-pom border, a variety of materials you can use, and different accessories you can make from this pattern will appeal to many crafters including beginners.

The pattern is simple and easy to follow, accompanied with plenty of photos to get you through the first steps and the border. After a few repeats, it gets really intuitive and mindful.

With this pattern, you can make a shawl, a beach wrap, or a head accessory, and because gauge is not applicable, you can literally use any yarn you want. I went with the soft, mohair-like fiber that produces an airy, flowy piece, warm and lightweight at the same time, the perfect spring shawl!

The Flowercloud Shawl is a part of my Heritage Collection, designed to honor a strong tradition of many generations of crafting women in my family, drawing inspiration from old patterns while also giving them an original designing twist.

Materials

Aran weight yarn (mohair or brushed alpaca recommended for a fuzzy look) *
4 mm hook
Sample used a little over 4 skeins of Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk for the main part and 1 skein for the border to make a shawl with a wingspan 170 cm.
This pattern recommends mohair or mohair-like fiber for a large, fuzzy, lightweight shawl. But you can also use cotton and make a beach cover up, or apply the pattern to a smaller scale, using different yarn weights, hooks and fibers.

Construction

The shawl is made from bottom up, starting at the corner and making it wider with every row, using granny stitch as a base. After you reach the desired wingspan, you end with a few rows of plain granny stitch to frame the flowers and then make pompom border along both shorter edges.
