Flowering socks
These are stockinette socks with a flower detail on the back of the leg and the instep. The pattern is beginner friendly and has clear step by step instructions. Test knitters reported that the pattern was easy to follow.
The socks are knit top down from the cuff with a gusset increase before a short-row heel, and a gusset decrease after the heel (gussets are optional). The wedged toe is finished off by grafting the stitches together (Kitchener). The pattern provides links to videos for doing german short rows and toe grafting. The lace pattern is both charted and written.
As these are plain vanilla socks (with an added detail), you can use your favourite stitch count and needle size. If you are a new sock knitter, you will have to try out different stitch counts and/or needle sizes to find what works for you. There are instructions in the pattern for how to chose the right stitch count and needle size for your yarn.
Sizes: 1 (2) 3 (4) 5 = 56 (60) 64 (68) 72 sts around the leg/foot.
Yarn: any sock yarn from light fingering to sport weight yarn.
Amount: estimated 250-300 m/270-325 yds, but it depends on size and shoe size (ranging from 60 g light fingering to 100 g sport weight yarn). Larger/smaller feet might require more/less yarn.
Needle: to match desired gauge, suggested 2.0 – 3.0 mm (US 0 – 2½).
Gauge: as desired, sample knit in light fingering weight yarn with 34 stitches and 42 rows per 10 cm/4” in stockinette stitch after gentle blocking. Different yarns and needle sizes give different gauges.
