About the design
The FAB cardigan monochrome is a loose-fitting raglan cardigan worked from the top down in one-color brioche stitch. Thanks to its raglan construction, it’s knitted in one piece; after you’ve worked the yoke with raglan increases, the sleeve stitches are placed on stitch holders to rest while the body is finished. The yoke and body are worked in brioche stitch knit flat. After finishing the body, a double-knitted button band (with or without buttonholes) is worked along the front pieces and neckline. Lastly, the sleeve stitches are picked up again and worked straight in brioche stitch in the round. Both body and sleeves are finished with a twisted rib edge.

Note. The original FAB cardigan (worked in two-color brioche stitch) can be found here.

A note about sizes
The cardigan is designed to have a positive ease of approx. 20-30 cm for sizes A-E and 15-20 cm for sizes F-H, meaning that the circumference of the finished garment (after wash and blocking) should be 20-30 cm (A-E) or 15-20 cm (F-H) wider than your widest upper body measurement.

Level and techniques
The level of the FAB cardigan monochrome is intermediate, and the pattern is written only.

The pattern includes the following techniques:

  • Long tail cast-on (slingshot method)
  • Brioche stitch knit flat
  • Brioche stitch in the round
  • Brioche increase: kyok (knit yarn over knit)
  • Left-leaning increase (m1L)
  • Twisted rib (k1tbl, p1tbl)
  • Backwards loop cast-on
  • Italian cast-on and Italian bind-off
  • Picking up stitches
  • Double-knitting

About the depicted versions:

  • The multicolored sample is a size C with no added elasticity in the ribbing on the body. It’s knitted in The Petite Wool from We Are Knitters in the color Hand-Painted.

  • The test knitters’ versions are made in one strand of Puno from Gepard Garn held together with one strand of Kid Seta from Gepard Garn.
