Meet our adorable Fluffy Hedgehog. He’s cute, cuddly and very lovable.

This Fluffy Hedgehog is suitable for advanced beginner knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches, standard knitting terms and a comfort with using the loop stitch. Our Fluffy Hedgehog is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 20 m of medium weight yarn for the body (yarn A) and approximately 6 m of medium weight yarn for the head and feet (yarn B). With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles for the body and 3.75 mm (US size 5) for the head and feet. You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the face, stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a needle to sew your hedgehog together.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.

This Fluffy Hedgehog Pattern is ideal for using up ends of yarn that are too long to throw away, but too short to knit into anything else. We encourage you to tie all your similar sized yarns together to make one huge ball of ‘hedgehog’ yarn - variations in colours make your hedgehogs interesting and there’s nothing better than using up old yarns!
